Commercial Crew

Overview

Boeing CST-100 NASA's Commercial Crew Development (CCDev) initiative is providing a unique opportunity for Boeing to accelerate development of system concepts, key technologies, risk reductions, and procurement of long lead items for a Commercial Crew Transportation System (CCTS). Throughout Boeing's corporate history, new aerospace markets have been opened and the range of products and services offered has expanded. NASA's investments in CCDev, coupled with Boeing expertise and resources, will allow significant progress toward delivering a commercial transportation system to ISS and other destinations such as Bigelow Aerospace's Orbital Complex.

CCDev1: February 2010 - October 2010

Boeing executed the Commercial Crew Development Phase 1 (CCDev1) Space Act Agreement of $18M from February 2010 - October 2010 which included milestones including engine test firings, airbag up-righting tests, and culminated with a successful Systems Design Review.

CCDev2: April 2011 - July 2012

Currently, Boeing is executing the Commercial Crew Development Phase 2 (CCDev2) Space Act Agreement of $112.9M and will run from April 2011 - July 2012. Some of the Phase 2 milestones include Airbag drop tests, wind tunnel tests, and taking the integrated system to a Preliminary Design Review.
